How do I set up my laptop as a thin client to my WinXP tower?

Turn on Remote Desktop on the tower, and then connect from your client laptop using Remote Desktop Client (Windows) or rdesktop (Linux) or CoRD (Mac).
Make sure you have a great network bandwidth. And you can run them by sharing the applications or by a remote desktop program.
You can share any disk or folder on the server by right-clicking on it and choosing the ‘Sharing and Security . . .’ menu. Go ahead and click on the “If you know the risks….” yada yada link. It’s OK.
Check the box to share the disk on the network, and give it a meaningful name. Also check the box that allows read/write access. When you hit OK, go to the laptop and look under My Computer / My Network Places and the folder on the server will show up there. You can make a shortcut of the shared disk and put it on the laptop’s desktop.
You can share as many folders as you want
